Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport and after completing all airport formalities, you will meet our driver-guide named “SULLEIMAN”. He will be wearing Kimgoni Tanzania Safaris and holding the white board with Kimgoni Tanzania Safaris logo and written. After breakfast at your hotel, you will meet our driver-guide at the resort and board a 4×4 vehicle, then transfer to Londorossi Park Gate for check-in. The porters will prepare and pack the supplies and luggage before you start the climb along the forest trail to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) campsite at 2895m, you will spend the night here.
The journey continues east across the Shira Plateau with spectacular views of Shira Cathedral, crossing a moorland meadow to reach Shira 1 Camp for dinner and overnight camping at 3,500m. You will now be able to see the stunning Western Breach Glaciers. Tonight will be colder than the night before and temperatures could drop below freezing.
Today you will hike to the top of Shira Cathedral, a huge rocky spur surrounded by steep spires and pinnacles. There is a tangible sense of wilderness here, especially as the afternoon mists settle in. From the camp near Shira Hut we admire the unforgettable view of Mount Meru.
You now leave the moorland behind and a gentle sloping walk takes us through the high altitude Shira Caldera to Shira Cave with fabulous views of the Arrow Glacier. You will camp here for the night at 4200m.
You leave the Moir Valley and take a short detour to reach the top of the Collines du Carême (4700m). After admiring the view, you return to the trail and head east around the Northern Circuit trail. The last section of today’s walk undulates until reaching the location of Pofu Camp.
From Pofu Camp, you will pass through many small valleys as the trail continues through an increasingly sparsely vegetated landscape to finally reach the third cave camp.
Today, a steady climb to reach the Saddle, a lunar landscape between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi. From there, we continue upwards and arrive at School Hut in the early afternoon. The rest of the afternoon is spent resting and preparing for the day at the summit.
We begin the final and most demanding part of the climb at around 1am on a switchback trail through volcanic scree to reach the crater rim at Gillman’s Point. We rest here briefly to enjoy the spectacular sunrise over Mawenzi. We then head towards Uhuru Peak, passing close to the spectacular glaciers and ice cliffs that still occupy most of the summit area. We retrace our steps along the crater rim to Stella Point and then descend via the camp ofBarafu, where our porters will be waiting for us with a packed lunch. We will then continue downhill to reach Millennium Camp.
Your last day of trekking. Departing after breakfast, we descend another 1300m to the Mweka Park Gate to collect your summit certificates from the park headquarters. We will then transfer back to our hotel for a well-deserved shower and celebration. You will have your breakfast in the morning at the resort, after breakfast you will collect all your luggage and meet our driver-guide at the hotel reception lobby, then you will board the safari vehicle and be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight. departure.
