Mikumi National Park is a national park near Morogoro, Tanzania, covering an area of 3,230 km2 (1,250 sq mi). Mikumi National Park borders the Selous Game Reserve to the south, with the two areas forming a unique ecosystem. Two other natural areas bordering the national park are Mount Udzungwa and Uluguru. Malundwe Mountain lies within the park, the highest in a belt of hills that runs east-west across the park, linking the Uluguru Mountains in the northeast to the Uvidunda and Udzungwa Mountains in the north west. Malundwe Mountain consists of three peaks along a ridge running north to south. The South Peak of Malundwe is the highest point in the park, reaching 1,290 meters above sea level. The landscape of Mikumi is often compared to that of the Serengeti. The road that crosses the park divides it into two areas with partially distinct environments. The northwest area is characterized by the alluvial plain of the Mkata river basin. The vegetation of this area is made up of savannah dotted with acacias, baobabs, tamarinds and a few rare palm trees. In this area, furthest from the road, are the spectacular rock formations of the Rubeho and Uluguru mountains. The south-eastern part of the park is less rich in wildlife and not very accessible. You will enjoy much of the safari. You will have lunch in the picnic area located inside the park. In the late evening, you will head to Mikumi Bandas for dinner and overnight.
Meal plan includes: breakfast, picnic lunch boxes and dinner.
You will wake up early in the morning and then have breakfast at the restaurant. After breakfast at the
restaurant, you will board the safari vehicle with your picnic boxes and set off for a full day safari. The
fauna includes many species characteristic of the African savannah. The park contains a subspecies of
giraffe that biologists consider to be the link between the Maasai giraffe and the reticulated giraffe. Other animals in the park include elephants, zebras, impalas, elk, kudu, black antelopes, baboons, wildebeest and buffalo. About 5 km north of the park, there are two artificial pools inhabited by hippos. More than 400 different species of birds also inhabit the park. You will have lunch in the picnic area. At the end of the noon, you will exit the park and drive to Dar es salaam Airport for your flight departure. Depending on your flight schedule.
